Ice charts produced by the US National Ice Center and Canadian Ice Service dating from 1972 are available for viewing and analysis. Ice conditions on these charts are displayed using Egg Codes which consolidate information on ice concentration, stage of development and form in a compact graphic.
Most of the map displays on this site offer a background satellite image mosaic composed of MODIS imagery, collected on a daily basis since 2000
The current conditions map displays global surface wind forecasts, updated every six hours, produced by NOAA.
